Eligibility Requirements

In order to apply to UWC through UWC Sverige, the applicant must meet our eligibility requirements.

If you are unsure of your eligibility or have any questions regarding our formal requirements, we encourage you to contact the UWC Sverige Selection Coordinator at ansokan@se.uwc.org.

All students are selected on the basis of their personal merits and commitment to the UWC values, regardless of their religion, political affiliation, gender, sexual orientation or social and economic background.

Apply in the first or second year of high school (gymnasium)

Candidates should be in year 10 or 11 when applying (first or second year of gymnasium, MYP5 or IB1), and must be aged at least 16 on the 1st of September of the year they aim to enter a UWC. They must also not be older than 18 the year they submit their application. In some rare, exceptional cases we can accept older applicants. Most UWC schools and colleges are only for students of sixth form age. Although some UWCs are for students of other ages, UWC Sverige does not select students for the lower years.

Grades from year 9 (MYP4 or equivalent)

We want applicants to have at least a C average in the theoretical subjects. This means that your merit from grade 9 should be at least 15 points per theoretical subject on average and at least about 240 points in total (in the Swedish school system). This is because the IBDP offered at UWC is an academically demanding program. In other words, 15 points should be seen as a guideline, rather than a rule. Note also that you must be enrolled in one of the upper secondary school's college preparatory programs (e.g. natural sciences, social sciences, aesthetics, humanities or IB). All applicants must have as their intention to continue studying at a university or college after UWC.

Availability for interviews

In order to be considered for our scholarship, the applicant must be able to attend our interviews. Please note important dates for the exact days that may be involved in this selection period. In special circumstances, the final interview may take place via Zoom. In the unlikely event that you are unable to attend a scheduled interview, please contact us at ansokan@se.uwc.org as soon as possible.

Resident in Sweden and have a permanent residence permit or right of residence in Sweden

Candidates applying to UWC through UWC Sverige will represent Sweden at UWC schools around the world. Therefore, you must be registered in Sweden and either be a Swedish citizen or have a permanent residence permit or right of residence in Sweden to apply for a UWC scholarship through UWC Sverige.

Please note that is not allowed to apply for a scholarship from more than one National Committee in the same year. If you are not resident in Sweden or do not have a permanent residence permit or right of residence in Sweden, please contact the National Committee of the country you live in or have citizenship in for information on how to apply to UWC. You can read more about National Committees here.

Do you live abroad?

Swedes living abroad who want to apply to UWC are encouraged to apply through the national committee of the country they live in. If there is no national committee or UWC school in your country of residence, or if you feel a stronger connection to Sweden than to any other country, you should contact UWC Sverige before applying so that we can advise you on which country you should apply for a scholarship from.

What is a GSP application?

The UWC Global Selections Program (GSP) is an alternative application route for a limited number of places at some UWC schools. The GSP is coordinated by UWC International in close cooperation with UWC schools, colleges and the UWC national committees. Currently, you can apply to 16 of the 18 UWC schools through the GSP. Applicants who choose the GSP route waive financial support (i.e. they will not be offered any scholarship funding for their place). Both the GSP and National Committee application routes select students based on the UWC's general selection criteria. The advantage of a GSP application is that you have much more freedom to choose the school you want to study at. If you apply for a scholarship through UWC Sverige, we decide which school we want to send you to. In addition, your chances of getting in via GSP are greater than via the National Committee, as there are more places at the schools than we have scholarships to distribute.
